Men and women of all ages, shapes and colors are flaunting their feathers so if you haven't jumped on the bandwagon yet, it is time to flock this way! Here is all you need to know about rockin' your own fab feathers… How and where can I get feather extensions?Salons across the globe (as well as fly-fishing supply stores) are struggling to keep enough feathers in stock to meet client demand! Most salons have feathers in stock or there are several websites you can order from and bring them into the salon for your stylist to install. Call your salon and make sure they are doing feather extensions, but at this point, most are! How do feather extensions work?Feather extensions are attached to your hair using a micro-bead. This is also sometimes referred to as the "cold-fusion" hair method. The micro-bead causes no damage to your hair and with proper placement, is not even visible. If you get tired of your colors and want to change or simply don't want the extensions anymore, they can be quickly and easily removed. Just remember that feather extensions are added to accent your hair, not to increase length or volume like regular hair extensions. How do I know how many and what colors to get?The great part about the feather trend is your colors and number of feathers used is totally up to you! You can create a look completely unique to you and what you are comfortable with. Some choose more natural colors and patterns like golds, browns and reds to blend in and simply highlight their hair's natural elements, while others choose bright pinks, blues and greens to really make a statement! A typical install usually consists of three or four feathers strategically placed around the face and head. For example, long, thin feather hair extensions in bright, noticeable colors and patterns like blue, green, pink, white, polka dot, or stripes are usually placed near the temples and ear area to add highlights and to frame the face. The extensions can be placed on one or both side of the face. Alternatively, bunches of shorter, wider feathers can also create a unique, layered look at the bang, crown or nape areas. How do I take care of feather extensions?Once installed, the feather extensions basically integrate with your own natural hair. They can be shampooed, blow-dried, and styled with flat irons and curling irons. You only need to be a little cautious of the micro-bead when brushing or combing from the roots. With proper installation and care, feather hair extensions are said to last anywhere from 3-8 months! How much do feather extensions cost? While prices of course vary due to size and number of feathers as well as the cost of installation at different salons, this trend is very affordable. On average when purchasing at a salon, a bundle of three feathers with installation can range from $30-$50. A single feather is typically $10, depending upon the size of course. Overall, this is a very affordable, non-permanent option to create look all your own! |
